ABOUT THE PROGRAMME
The Associate Degree in Engineering aims to provide students with high-quality education in the theory and practices in Engineering. Graduates of the programme will have the academic and social tools, which will allow them to integrate into the industry and other institutions of higher learning.

WHO IS THE PROGRAMME FOR?
The programme is designed for persons who wish to start a career in Engineering or advance their career options in the theory and practice of Engineering.
Graduates can work in roles such as:

  • Engineering Technology
  • Marine Engineering Technology
  • Mechanical Engineering Technology
  • Mental Health and Substance Abuse Social Worker
  • Electrical and Computer Technology

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must meet the Council of Community Colleges of Jamaica (CCCJ) matriculation requirements in order to be accepted in the programme. Either of the following: Standard Matriculation A minimum of five (5) CSEC or GCE O’level including English A and Mathematics. Alternate Matriculation Equivalent qualification(s) as determined by the CCCJ Mature Status as determined by CCCJ.

The Associate Degree in Engineering is an eighty-three (83) credit programme currently offered full-time across four (4) semesters and part-time (evenings) across six (6) semesters. The programme comprises the following courses: General Core Courses Communication I & II Fundamentals of Information Technology Mathematics I & II Oral Communication Introduction to Psychology Physics I & II Technical/Applied Courses Computer in Engineering Engineering Graphics Mechanical workshop Electrical Workshop Introduction to Electronic Devices Technical Drawing Engineering Courses Chemistry for Engineers Electrical Engineering Science Engineering Mathematics I & II Engineering Physics Engineering Statics Introduction to Engineering Materials in Engineering

Students may start the programme in September or January of the academic year.

The programme is currently delivered full-time, part-time (evenings) or weekends depending on demand.

To be awarded the Associate of Science Degree in Engineering, a student must have: Completed all credits in the programme Completed all courses in the programme Completed all required hours of work experience
