Enrolled Assistant Nursing

ABOUT THE PROGRAMME
The Enrolled Assistant Nursing programme aims to help individuals develop their skills, ability and competencies in the nursing profession as an Enrolled Assistant Nurse (EAN). The programme is designed to provide training to persons interested in Enrolled Assistant Nursing to prepare them for work within communities and organizations in order to provide the necessary support needed within the medical field. The course addresses theories, principles, and practices of Enrolled Assistant Nursing, law, and legal regulations as well as human needs and behaviors.

WHO IS THE PROGRAMME FOR?
This dynamic programme is designed to develop the necessary knowledge, skills, competencies, and attitudes to meet the needs of Enrolled Assistant Nurses within the medical sector.

Role(s) of an Enrolled Assistant Nursse:
Enrolled nurses contribute to nursing assessments, care planning, implementation and evaluation of care for health consumers and/or families.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Four (4) CXC/CSEC or GCE 'O' Level subjects at Grades I,II or III (CXC/CSEC) or A,B or C (GCE).
Three of these must be at grades 1/2 or A/B

Compulsory Subjects:
One each chosen from the following:
English Language
Mathematics
Biology or Human & Social Biology

Other Subjects:
One other subject chosen from: Agricultural Science, Geography, Carbbean History, a Modern Language, Social Studies, Religious Education, Food & Nutrition, Home Economic Management, Principles of Accounts, Principles of Business, English Literature, Information Technology, Chemistry, Physics, Economics.

Courses include:
Nutrition, Psychology, Community Health, First Aid, Anatomy and Physiology, Profession of Nursing, Fundamentals of Nursing, Medical/Surgical Nursing and Clinical, and Nutrition.

Students may start the programme in September or January of the academic year.

The programme is currently delivered full-time.

To be awarded the Diploma in Enrolled Assistant Nursing a student must have: Completed all credits in the programme Completed all courses in the programme Completed all required hours of Practicum
